The Star of Bethlehem
Three years
ago, the Municipality of Bethlehem and the Region of Umbria have signed
an agreement of co-operation and friendship. This agreement was accompanied
by numerous initiatives and enriched gradually through concrete projects. The
Star of Bethlehem Web Site is one of the initiatives of Italian solidarity
with the Palestinian people. It is produced to crown the deep rooted
relations as it features the City of the Nativity which embodies hope,
love and peace in the minds of human kind.
To celebrate
the new Millennium and mark the anniversary of the birth of Jesus
Christ in Palestine, the Bethlehem Municipality with the help of the
Italian Co-ordination of Local Authorities for Peace in Italy launched
the Star of Bethlehem Web Site financed by the Region of Umbria in
Italy. The occasion of
the Millennium was chosen as an appropriate time to launch developmental
projects in Bethlehem, which, like other Palestinian cities, suffered
from severe deprivation as a result of occupation.
The Star of Bethlehem is launched to
promote tourism. But more than anything else, the Star of Bethlehem
will communicate the hope of the Palestinian people in peace and freedom
based on justice, reconciliation, and dialogue, so that the eternal
message of Christ, with which they identify, can be translated into
reality.
